Maria Cristina Fantini, M. Mus., B. Ed.
A soprano at home in both classical and popular styles Maria Cristina has been mentoring and aspiring vocal students for 18 years in Vancouver, Toronto and Seattle.
Maria completed her Masters of Music Degree in 2004 at UBC and has been active in the opera community since graduating and performed in Opera Nuova’s 2004 production of Mozart’s ‘The Abduction from the Seraglio’ and in Vancouver Opera’s 2006 production of Gounod’s ‘Faust’.
In addition to her opera singing Maria has established her own music studio ‘Blue River Music Studios’ and has acted as a vocal coach on recording demos, music projects, competitions and RCM examinations.
She currently teaches music and drama at Mount Pleasant Elementary and has directed musicals, vocal ensembles, ukulele ensembles along with local fundraisers and concerts.
Her eclectic musical background from her studies in South Indian Music, popular and classical has helped enrich and develop her warm, resonant vocal tone that has flexibility and authenticity in crossing over into various genres.
Anju Bedi, Masters of Music
Sitar is a beautiful classical Indian musical instrument that brings melodies of peace and harmony. Anju Bedi has been playing Sitar for over 25 years. Her greatest joy is sharing her passion by actively performing in various communities. She has great joy in sharing her knowledge on the foundations of Sitar in a fun and positive environment.
Anju completed her Masters of Sitar Degree in 1981 from India. She is influential in spreading the Art of Indian classical music to the West and bringing inspiration through the melodies of Sitar.
She has performed at local cultural shows, private functions, and Gala’s such as Shakti Society Awards Gala, Chilliwack Hospice Society fundraising Gala, Rhythms of India Gala and more. This year Anju has also had an opportunity to share her musical journey through her interview with Desi Close Look where she featured as a television guest speaker. In addition to performing and coaching, Anju dedicates her time in developing and enhancing her skills. Over the years, Anju has received tremendous support in Sitar through her Gurus Mr. Mohamed Assani Ji and Dr. Swami Satya Parkash Ji. Playing Sitar has always been part of her life and her passion. Anju continues to share positive energy through her music and stimulate inspiration of Indian Classical music around the world.
